로또 480만 달러(약 42억 5천만원)에 당첨되고도 당첨 사실을 모르는 로또 당첨자 이야기를 호주 뉴사우스웨일즈 지역 언론 데일리 텔레크래프(Daily Telegraph)가 보도했다.

호주 로또인 타츠(Tatts) 복권의 1등 당첨금액은 480만 호주달러(약 42억 5천만원)로 매달 2만 달러(약 1,773만원)씩 20년간 받을 수 있는 거액이다. 호주 로또 관계자는 “당첨자가 안내 전화를 받지 않아 당첨자 확인에 어려움을 겪고 있다”고 밝혔다. 만일 당첨자와 계속 연락이 되지 않을 경우 국고로 귀속될 전망이다.

뉴사우스웨일즈 주에서 실시된 타츠 복권 로또 추첨 결과 이 곳에 거주하는 주민이 로또에 당첨된 것이 확인됐다. 타츠(Tatts) 로또 복권 담당자는 “당첨자에게 몇 번이나 연락했으나 아무런 응답이 없었다”고 안타까워 했다.

밸린다 맥도웰(Belinda McDaugall) 타츠 로또복권 관계자는 “뉴사우스웨일즈 주민께서는 로또 당첨 여부를 확인하시고 저희의 당첨안내 전화를 받길 바랍니다”라고 말했다.

그는 “아마도 당첨자는 매일 받는 광고 전화인 줄 알고 저희의 전화를 받지 않는 것 같다”며 “만일 저희의 당첨 안내 전화를 받는다면 20년 동안 취미생활을 하거나, 세계를 여행하거나 아니면 더 많은 자유를 누리는 등의 새로운 미래가 열릴 것”이라고 강조했다.

이어 관계자는 “뉴사우스웨일즈 주민이라면 꼭 당첨여부를 확인해달라. 만약 모르는 번호로 부재중 전화를 받은 적이 있다면 당신이 당첨자 일 수도 있다”고 덧붙였다.

한편 1등 당첨복권은 뉴사우스웨일즈 주에 위치한 탐워스(Tamworth)에서 서쪽으로 한 시간 가량 떨어진 작은 마을 거네다(Gunnedah)에서 팔린 것으로 전해졌다.

That’s the reality for one lucky New South Wales resident – only they don’t know it yet.

Tatts Lotteries have tried a number of times to contact the lucky winner but their calls have gone unanswered.

“I can’t wait to deliver the news to New South Wales’ newest Set for Life winner, if only they’d answer my phone calls!” spokeswoman Belinda McDougall told the Daily Telegraph.

“This isn’t the sort of phone call that people are used to receiving – it’s life-changing! It’s 20 years of brand new possibilities for someone; to pursue their hobbies, travel the world, and have more freedom.

“We’re urging any Set for Life players in New South Wales to check their entries today, as you could be our winner! If you’ve got a few missed calls on your phone, it could be a clue,” she said.

The ticket was purchased from a newsagency in Gunnedah, a small town one hour west of Tamworth.

The total value of the prize is $4.8 million.
